Christmas Craft Busy Containers For Your Kids

from: Dave Wagstaffe

Do you have a lot of running around to do before the holidays? What can make errand time stressful is when you have to take little ones around with you. Here are some non-messy holiday crafts you can make up ahead of time and place in containers so that the little ones can stay busy while you drive, or wait on an errand.

Containers:

Keep those plastic containers that lunchmeat comes in. Clean them and dry them and then put them away until you have the craft supplies ready to put into them.

Craft Supplies:

Craft #1 Xmas Cards

Contruction paper precut into card shape

Holiday stickers

Crayons or markers

Craft #2 Refrigerator Magnets

Save lids from jars (spagetti and pizza sauce, baby food etc.)

colored pom poms

colorful buttons

Glue

Glitter

(this craft is a sit down one and should not be attempted in a moving vehicle)

You will need to glue a magnet to the outside of the lid (kids decorate the inside of the lid)

Craft #3 Reindeer

Craft sticks (tongue depressors) or clothes pins

Eyes from craft store

Glue

Brown marker or crayon

Pre-cut brown felt in small strips (for tail)

Craft #4 Christmas Tree

Precut Tree shapes from green construction paper (3 - 4" tall) must fit into container

Crayons or markers

Misc. Tips:

Well, you get the idea now. You can get more craft ideas from magazines, books and Websites. Just keep saving those used containers from lunchmeats or soft margarine tubs and fill them with holiday craft supplies (one craft idea per container). Place a white piece of paper on the lid of the container that has the title of the craft and any necessary tips like (not a car craft) or age suggestion.

These containers work well because they hold the supplies, can separate different crafts so the supplies do not get mixed together, are weather-proof, and easy to pack for grandma's or a sitters house.

Keep containers in your purse (if they fit), in school backpacks, or the diaper bag or preschooler tote bag.

Bring out the containers whenever you need to keep the kids entertained while you drive, are waiting for a prescription, or other errand, or when visiting during the holidays and the kids are bored.

You can find all kinds of terrific craft ideas at local craft supply stores to help you fill your containers with fun crafts to keep your little ones busy and quiet this holiday season. Not only will they stay entertained and quiet, but also they will have fun making useful holiday gifts, and decorations for you, family members and friends. You can also discover that you are less stressed when your little ones are able to do something they will enjoy that celebrates the season.
