ENJOYING CHRISTMAS CRAFT PROJECTS
One of the most enjoyable things about the Christmas holiday, aside from wonderful food and being surrounded by friends and family, is being surrounded with festive decorations. Music and decorations help set the joyous mood, which serves as the perfect background for your gatherings.
There are many projects to get done during the holiday; cooking big meals, decorating the tree and putting lights on the house but I enjoy creating Christmas craft projects the most. It’s a personal way in which you can celebrate the holiday on your own without all the outside demands. You pick the project, set the pace and let your inner artist take over.
Finding Christmas craft projects to work upon is a process that can be almost as enjoyable as completing the crafts themselves. The process allows you to feel out your talents inner and potential hobbies. Perhaps you would relax the most with a pair of knitting needles working on a hat for someone special, or maybe instead you’d rather work with the kids and create Christmas themed hand-painted sun catchers. Finding projects to get interested in can take trial and error, but finding out your likes/dislikes is never a waste!
Usually I start at a craft store, even if it’s just to walk around to see where I’m most comfortable. Beading, painting, knitting, silk floral there are many departments. If after walking the stores and looking through craft books you still are unsure what craft to do either pick up a few or better yet go home and create a pro/con list.
Are the Christmas craft projects for your own home or to give as gifts? Do you want to create something practical or something decorative? If you are creating Christmas craft projects to give as gifts, you will want to identify your audience to help you narrow down your choices. You can also look online to help you understand how detailed particular projects are. Do you have enough time to allocate to this craft? Lastly, speaking about time, is there a deadline to meet? If you are having dinner with “X” in two weeks and want to make a gift for them that realistically can take longer, you might wish to find simpler Christmas craft projects on which to work.
Once you have created your first project, you should be able to tell if it were something you would want to do again in the future. I find that keeping a craft journal, of what I liked and disliked about my projects, is beneficial to me. Usually the following year when I go to start making crafts again I will have forgotten what I was successful at the previous year! Happy crafting!
